When Krystal Glass Company was founded in 1980, Jimmy Carter was president, John Lennon was killed, Dallas was the number one TV show, and the South Florida building boom was in full swing.
Our business was built on providing etched glass to interior designers, and the very first interior designer client was Roy Sklaryn recalls Chris Lapienski, who founded the company with her husband Rick. The project was a very large panel of artistically carved glass for a condo in Hallandale Beach, Florida.
Etched Glass For Interior Designers
In 1984, Chris’s brother Peter Edward joined the company and later bought it. Chris was an accomplished artist and created the freehand art that Peter Edward created on glass and mirror. Early projects popular with interior designers were dramatic carved and etched glass creations illuminated with fluorescent and/or neon lights.
We hired a public relations agency and exhibited at trade shows. The timing was perfect for the popularity of art glass, and our growth was swift. As business expanded, Peter Edward created etched and carved art glass for many types of projects for homes, businesses, yachts and riverboats.
Our clients like us and we like them. It makes for good working relationships. This is especially important when working with interior designers because they need a reliable resource on their team who will make them look good in front of their clients instead of causing an embarrassment.
Just today we had a call from an interior designer prospect who wanted custom glass etching done on a glass door. It’s a simple, straight forward project that we do all the time. When asked how he heard about Krystal Glass Company, he said “I’ve called four or five places and you’re the only ones who seem capable of doing this.” One was out of business, two didn’t answer their telephones and one said the key person was out sick so they were not able to do the job. We have been making interior designers look good for 35 years.
